What a weekend

So my wife's grandmother isn't doing so hot... she basically has given up on living... the question of course comes down to, what happens after she's gone....
I hate having to watch families fight over things....

Speaking of families... I just basically quit my drama family. My parents and I joined a theater troupe and we formed a company. Problem is... I'm the only real tech guy... so that mess of a website... that's my fault... it's cool and all, but it came out of my css class... so it's not the best... try it in Firefox for best results...
Anyway... we have a director... she's nice and all... and can pull some great performances out of people... but she sucks as a leader. Especially if money is involved. She can't manage money at all... she buys props when people have them at home... she rents useless sound equipment. She pays for people to do things that others in the cast would gladly do for free.
She also doen't know how to take no for an answer. Which is where my father comes in. You see, my father was the reluctant president of the company. Everytime the artistic director planned a show, she would come to the "board" with her ideas. Many times she wouldn't think it through and plan this huge performance without having any money to support it. She would also burn bridges with places we had already been... so it's been hard to find a repeating venue for our gigs. Anyway... long story short is that my father fought against her tooth and nail to ensure that we were running a positive cash flow company... she called him one day to tell him that she quit and that it was his fault... Conversation got heated... and my father quits instead of her. My father enjoys theater... he's been doing it for at least 30 years or more... so quitting something like this was huge. However it left me in an awakward position....
Last night I was part of a show... not really my cup of tea, this show... it was all about Ruth Bell Graham... Billy Graham's wife... it was nice... but it was all poetry and stuff... so it was pretty boring and at points hard to follow. Mind you, I've seen it about 20-25 times... and yet still parts don't make any sense to me. Anyway... I did the tech for the show... the company that wrote the play already put together sound and video files... I just had to combine them into one powerpoint presentation... Last night, the sound kid wasn't there... so I had to that instead of the video... so I had someone else do the power point... which was fine, because I set it up to basically just hit the spacebar whenever the script had a photo or sound que...
Anyway... I sat there during the show and rehersals... and all I could see was the fact that the director had placed herself in the middle of the set. She also made sure she was most prominant in most of the scenes... I think I'm seeing things through a filter... but still... she does this in every show... my whole feeling is that if you are going to direct... direct... don't star in the damned show... it just sets a bad precidence... it's also not cool to just place yourself in as a bit part either... do what you do best... and that is direct... if you want a part... let someone else direct... directing from stage doesn't work.
So I've quit... I told them to find a new webmaster and I'm looking at finishing up the last video that I haven't done from last Christmas....
I wish you all the best of luck...
